Today was probably the closest I've ever been to a wildfire. At no point were we in any danger of shifting winds or blowing embers, but on our first descent of the day we completely circled an area with a few dozen acres on fire. The rest of the day was long and hot, with smoke blowing around us constantly.
We ended for the day in Ely, NV which was slightly larger than the other towns we've been to recently. We stayed at a KOA, which was more expensive than other nights, but it was nice to have access to showers, laundry and a store with chocolate milk.
